Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Ride Jola Inc. ("Jola", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects information when you visit ridejola.com, use the Jola driver app, or work with us as a transportation provider. We keep it plain: we collect what we need to run routes and pay drivers fairly, and we do not sell personal information.
1. Who this covers
This policy applies to:
- Visitors to ridejola.com.
- Drivers who apply to or use the Jola driver app ("the App").
- Providers: bases, brokers and transportation companies that work with Jola, and their staff.
When we process rider or trip information on behalf of a provider, we do so under our agreement with that provider, and the provider's own privacy notice also applies (see section 6).
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account and contact details: name, phone number, email address, home or starting address, and login credentials.
- Driver eligibility information: driver's license and TLC or other for-hire license details, license photos, vehicle details (plate, make, model, year), insurance information, and the results of eligibility checks you authorize (for example a license status lookup or drug-test result).
- Availability and preferences: the days and hours you want to drive, your home base, and how you want to be reached.
- Payment information: details needed to pay you, such as bank account or payout details, and tax information (for example a W-9) where required. Payout details are processed by our payment partners and stored encrypted.
- Communications: messages, support requests, and emails you send us (including to partners@ridejola.com).
Information collected automatically
- Location: see section 3.
- Trip and activity data: routes, legs and live trips offered, accepted or declined; arrival, pickup and drop-off times; stop status; distance and duration; and earnings.
- Device and usage data: device model, operating system, app version, crash logs, push-notification token, IP address, and how you use the App and website.
- Connected vehicle data (optional): if you connect a vehicle account (for example a Tesla), we receive the data you authorize, such as location, battery level and odometer, to plan routes around charging and range. You can disconnect at any time.
Information from others
- Providers share trip details needed to plan and complete trips.
- Licensing and public sources, such as public license-status records, to confirm eligibility.
- Service providers that help us verify identity, process payments, or deliver messages.
3. Location data
Jola is a routing app, so location matters. With your permission, the App collects precise location while you are on duty: on an accepted route, leg or live trip, or while you have the Live tab open looking for trips. This includes background location while a trip is in progress, so navigation, arrival detection and trip records keep working when the App is not on screen.
We use location to show you reachable trips, navigate, confirm arrivals and drop-offs, estimate earnings, keep trip records providers rely on, and improve travel-time estimates. We do not track your location when you are off duty. You can turn off location permission in your device settings at any time, but the App's trip features will not work without it.
4. How we use information
- To operate the App: build and offer routes, legs and live trips, navigate, and record trip progress.
- To check eligibility and keep the service safe, including identity, license and vehicle checks.
- To calculate and show estimated and actual earnings, and to pay drivers.
- To give providers trip status and time-stamped trip records for the trips they assign.
- To communicate with you about trips, your account, safety, and changes to our terms.
- To improve routing, travel-time models and the App, including with aggregated or de-identified data.
- To detect and prevent fraud, misuse, and location spoofing, and to enforce our Terms.
- To comply with law, regulators (including licensing authorities), and lawful requests.
5. How we share information
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:
- With providers: when you accept a provider's trips, that provider receives your name, vehicle, license details it requires, live location during its trips, and the trip record.
- With service providers that work for us under contract: cloud hosting, maps and routing, messaging (SMS, email, push), payments and payouts, identity and license verification, and crash reporting. They may use the information only to provide services to us.
- For legal reasons: to comply with law, regulators or legal process; to protect the rights, property or safety of riders, drivers, providers, Jola or the public; or in connection with claims or disputes.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger, financing or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
- With your consent or at your direction.
6. Rider and trip data from providers
Providers send us trip information such as pickup and drop-off addresses, times, passenger names, mobility needs and contact details, so that a driver can complete the trip. For non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT), some of this may be protected health information. We process it only on the provider's instructions and under our agreement with them, including a business associate agreement where HIPAA applies. Drivers see only what they need to complete an assigned trip, and only while it is active. Riders with questions about their data should contact the provider that booked their trip; we will help that provider respond.
7. Text messages and notifications
If you give us your phone number, you agree that Jola may send you text messages about your account, sign-in codes, trip offers and trip updates. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Opting out of texts may limit your ability to receive trip offers. We do not share your mobile number or text-messaging consent with third parties for their marketing. You can turn off push notifications in your device settings.
8. Cookies and analytics
ridejola.com uses only the cookies and similar technologies needed to run and secure the site, plus privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics. We do not use advertising cookies. The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address to deliver them. Your browser settings let you block or delete cookies.
9. Data retention
We keep information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service, then for as long as required for legal, tax, insurance, regulatory and dispute purposes. Trip records may be kept for the period providers and regulators require. Detailed location history is kept only as long as needed for trip records, payments and safety, and is then deleted or de-identified. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it.
10. Security
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards, including encryption in transit, encryption of sensitive fields such as payout and tax details, access controls and least-privilege access for staff. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a security incident affecting your information, we will notify you and regulators as the law requires.
11. Your choices and rights
You can review and update most account information in the App. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and get a copy;
- correct inaccurate information;
- delete your information (subject to legal and record-keeping exceptions);
- opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we don't sell or share it) and of targeted advertising;
- limit the use of sensitive information such as precise location to what is needed for the service;
- appeal a decision we make about your request.
To make a request, email privacy@ridejola.com. We will verify your identity before acting and respond within the time the law requires. You may use an authorized agent. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights. You can also delete your account from the App or by emailing us.
12. Children
The App and website are for adults. Drivers must be at least 18 (and meet any higher age required for their license). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if we learn we have, we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Jola grows. We will post the new version here with a new "Last updated" date, and for material changes we will notify you in the App or by email before they take effect.
